Item Description:
Fresh from a very old estate, this is a breathtakingly beautiful antique shell cameo depicting a white dove and cabbagey roses in high relief in a garden of flowers with a ferny foliate plume. It measures approximately 1-1/2 x 1-3/8". It is set in gold washed metal that tests as sterling and has a C-closure. The hinge side of the bezel appears to have had an early reinforcement and replacement of the hinge which is an early European trumpet style hinge. The elegant carving of the lower section of the cameo is curved slightly more than the top to accommodate the natural curve of the shell. A unique and beautiful antique cameo that dates to at least the late 19th Century and possibly earlier. Domestic UPS Ground shipping included.
