Very rare NuArt Creations Art Deco Lamp with two naked ladies reading books sitting back to back against the shade. The ladies are sitting on an oak slat that is 1/4" thick. The ladies bottoms are bolted through the slat to the base of the lamp and they swivel. This lamp has an old cord which might have been replaced, however, it is an old looking reproduction cord. The lamp is in excellent condition, with just a few small chips of very dark "orignal" brown paint off in three place. These could be easliy touched up, but I will leave that to the new owner. I believe the ladies on lamp to be a cast metal of some type. The base may or may not be bronze as the lamp weighs 10 pounds. Comments by the appraiser: During the 1920s NuArt Creations produced wonderful pieces of Art Deco, to include bookends, free standing figurals and were best know for their lamps depicting nudes in various settings and poses. This was an era where we also see Frankart and Ronson doing similar works. All three are highly collectible good pieces are truly scarce. Your lamp depicting two nudes reading should be considered all original with the opening in the backs occurring during the manufacturing process. The base is either bonze colored white metal but most likely actual bronze this can be determined best by weight and/or firsthand inspection. The oak swivel action is not only interesting but very unique. The pink frosted glass Art Deco shade looks to be original and in excellent condition. Other shades NuArt used were Mercury glass, crackle glass, frost satin glass, etc. Replacement cost: $1200. ** Replacement Cost is the retail amount one might reasonably pay to purchase the item from a dealer, gallery, store, etc. It is also the amount for which one may want to insure an item.
