Victorian Hand Carved 3-D Ivory Bird Brooch

This exquisite antique brooch is carved from, of coarse, pre-ban ivory. Hand-carved from a single piece of elephant tusk. The openwork design features two pheasants amid an incredible profusion of ivy leaves and delicate vines that swirl around a graceful frame. The mossy foliage background makes this a fabulous 3 dimensional brooch. I can only imagine the hours of work this must have taken the craftsman to finish with such a truly superb one of a kind piece of art. The pin is turned up a little at the end, put it does not snag. This brooch has a book value of $2000.
