Les Bernard Hollywood Lapis Necklace

Founded by Bernard Shapiro, son of Harold Shapiro of Vogue jewelry, and Lester Joy, thus the name "Les Bernard". Les Bernard manufactured jewelry for Mary McFadden, James Galanos, the Dynasty Collection for the TV show and Ugo Correani. The jewelry has previously been under rated in the world of vintage costume jewelry, but is gaining recognition, thus causing prices to rise. It was always well made and intricate and incorporated both precious and semi-precious stones. This gorgeous necklace is no exception.

Measuring seventeen inches long and 3/4" wide, each quarter inch section is held in place securely strung with two chains. It is marked Les Bernard Inc, rather than Sterling, but I am unsure of the metal used. With real Lapis and thousands of white hand set stones, it weights a heavy 7.9 oz. The white stones look to be rhinestone with a loupe, but they test a higher grade on my gem tester, so may be some other diamond look-alike stone. I have not seen any comparable piece by the designer which leads me to conclude it is no doubt a one-of-a-kind piece made for Hollywood. I have many more photos if you would like to see them.
