There are wind-up toys and then there are vintage automatons such as this Drinking Metal Man wind up toy that works.
Original linen clothes that have some discoloration and a small hole on sleeve of right arm, a small hole on the elbow of left "drinking" arm, and three wear holes on the back of his long shirt. Plaid linen pants
All metal with a wine-like bottle in his right hand and a cup in his left hand. Metal hat, painted metal face, steel wire arms and legs and a tin-litho body.
Wind him up and you see the cup lifted to his mouth and the bottle comes across his chest and then back to the original position. Does this over and over but sometimes needs a little nudge after some unwinding.
Most likely French or Swiss and again likely about 1890-1900. Marking of PM inside a circle on top of hat and what apears "Pat" above.
This little guy is 8 inches tall, 3 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches wide.
Will take a photo of the tin body upon request. This doll has been in the same family for over 100 years and is thought to have been purchased in France.
Just think how well these were made to still work after a hundred years.
