Welden in cooperation with Cosette Promotions produced this darling porcelain "Little Cosette" doll. At the age of 3, Cosette was left at the Thenardier Inn in a hamlet outside Paris by her mother, Fantine. To pay for her little girl's keep and medicines. Fantine sold her own locket, most of her hair, and ultimately, her body, which led to her death. In the following 5 years, Cosette was horribly abused, forced to work as a skivvy around the inn and frequently beaten by Madam Thenardier. She the street in front of the inn daily, winter and summer, barefooted - her feet having quickly outgrown her own shoes. Her only garments were those she wore when her mother left her at the in.. Fantine's dying wish was that Jean Valjean would promise to care for Cosette. He finds the little orphan weeping and struggling with the huge water bucket in the dark, cold woods on Christmas night desperately trying to lift and drag it to the inn to avoid another beating. Valjean lifts the bucket from her little chapped hands and walks her to the inn. After paying the Thenardiers a ransom of 1500 French francs, he gives Cosette a doll. Catherine, whom she had long admired but could never have, and takes her away into his loving care. Porcelain head and breast plate, hands and arms, and legs. Cloth body. Tattered clothes, cap with the broom and bucket. 22 inch in length. COA, hang tag and mint in box. This is truly a collector's doll and one that needs someone to adopt her immediately into their home. CLICK HERE TO VIEW OUR LARGE PORCELAIN DOLL GALLERY!"
