The second of our oil paintings by the same unknown artist. This is rather winter scene with a "Forgotten Horse" standing in a light snow next to a rail fence. House and barn up on the hill with lights inside and smoke coming from the chimney.
My feeling is that this was a somewhat well known artist in the 1930's, but there is no signature, and the research so far has not turned up a name. It was purchased, along with another oil painting entitled "Pigeon Point Lighthouse" by the same artist..
The purchaser of this oil paid $21.50 for this painting in 1934. That would be the equivalent of approximately $450 today, and probably more as that was of course depression time when few had $21 to spend on an oil painting.
No smoke damage or other damage to the oil, however, I see a few very small black spots and not sure if that is a rub or some black paint.
Very nice 1920's-30's gold "deco-type" frame.
If by chance you recognize this artist I would be very greatful to know his or her name. Our email address is below.
