Victorian Valentine features three layers connected by their original paper accordians to make this beautiful and nostalgic piece of sentiment three-dimensional. The first layer is embossed and decorated with gold and has a central German embossed die-cut with a card that says "A Token of Affection" amid a group of forget-me-nots. A scalloped frame of daisies is then applied with paper accordians and over that a gold paper lace from with applied die cuts of a butterfly and a charmingly whimsical fish bowl with its fish swimming inside and the sentiment "With fond love" inscribed across the top made us smile. The inside features a delightful and intricately rendered garden scene of Cupid whispering in the ear of a cherub-like little girl carrying a flower basket among foliage and trailing floral vines. The verse below says, "There is nothing half so sweet in life, As Love's young dream." This lovely Victorian Valentine is dated 1894 in pencil on the reverse but it is unsigned. It is in Very Good Condition with some minor imperfections. There are corner bends at the top corners and discoloration to the top right corner which are far more obvious when the card is opened than can be seen on the face. There are tiny corner bends on the teal blue daisy section as well as tiny tear that is less than 1/8" on the inside bottom right. The gold paper lace has come apart at about 3 O'Clock. None of these, however, seem to affect the charm and nostalgia of this Victorian Valentine -- imagine what it has seen in its over 100 years!
