EYEGLASSES *ORIGINALLY CALLED SPECTACLES, THIS ACCESSORY IS WORN OVER THE EYES EITHER TO IMPROVE THE VISION OR TO PROTECT THE EYES. FIRST INTRODUCED IN ITALY LATE 13TH CENTURY AND WERE AN INDICATION OF    WISDOM AS FEW  PEOPLE COULD READ. COLORED LENSES WERE INTRODUCED DURING THE 17TH CENTURY.    BEN FRANKLIN - SMALL ELLIPTICAL OR OBLONG WITH DELICATE METAL FRAMES. ALSO CALLED GRANNY GLASSES
   BIFOCALS - LENSES ARE DIVIDED IN PARTS FOR NEAR AND FAR  VISION.
   BUG EYED - BULGING CONVEX GLASSES LIKE THE EYES OF AN INSECT
   BUTTERFLY - RIMLESS SUNGLASSES WITH LENSES LIKE A BUTTERFLY'S WINGS C. 1960'S
   COURREGES - INTRODUCED IN 1965 BY ANDRE' COURREGES. HAVE STRIP OF OPAQUE PLASTIC WHICH
     CIRCLES THE FACE TO EARS. CENTER HAS TINTED SLIVER OF GLASS OR PLASTIC.
   GOGGLES - PROTECTIVE GLASSES USUALLY WITH SHATTERPROOF LENSES.

   HORN RIMS  - HEAVY RIMS OF DARK HORN OR MOTTLED BROWN PLASTIC. POPULAR IN 1940-50'S.
   LENNON - CIRCLULAR METAL RIMMED LENSES WITH THIN METAL BOWS. NAMED FOR JOHN LENNON
   LORGNETTE (LORN-YET) - ATTACHED TO A HANDLE AND USUALLY HINGED SO THEY CAN BE FOLDED.
      ORIG. FRENCH LORGNER MEANING "TO SPY OR PEEP".
   LOUVRE - MOLDED PLASTIC WITH TILTED SLATS LIKE VENETIAN BLINDS. FRENCH 1980'S
   MONOCLE - SINGLE EYEGLASS USED ONLY ON ONE EYE. USUALLY SUSPENDED FROM A CHAIN
   OPERA - BINOCULARS USED FOR CLOSE UP VIEWING AT THEATRES, ETC. SOME ORNATE.
   OWL - EXTRA GLASSES WITH WIDE HEAVY RIMS
   PINCE-NEZ (PANTS NAY) EYEGLASSES WITH NO EAR PIECES AND KEPT IN PLACE BY A SPRING
     GRIPPING THE BRIDGE OF THE NOSE.
