Alice Caviness jewelry was a higher-end boutique line compared to the more mainstream mass production designers. Yet, in the stiffly competitive American costume jewelry market of the "Golden Age", Caviness jewelry held its own. It is a signature that is less commonly found but generally a treasure of the highest quality and most unusual materials, design and construction as seen in this beautiful pin. Quality open and closed-back foiled and unfoiled stones combine with delicate raised filigree swirls and a huge off-center cabochon with faux matrix of brown and blue in a stylized heart shape brooch. The open-backed navettes in this pin are remarkable for their resemblance to the clearest of icy chunks. The metal is antiqued in a muted goldtone. The pin is signed on the reverse, "Alice Caviness" on an oval cartouche and has a safety closure. It is in Excellent Condition. IMHO, this is one that could certainly qualify as a "book piece".
