Striped rhinestone vintage Czech buckle dates to the late 19th century when such striped glass stones, called iris glass, were created to reproduce the rainbow or iris quartz of the Alps that was brought down through the Rhine river, which gave rise to the term "rhinestone". This gorgeous gilt filigree buckle could be worn as a belt buckle or neck ornament with a ribbon tied through it as a choker at the neck. This superb example of early Czech filigree and striped or iris rhinestones measures approximately 1-1/2 x 1" and is signed "CZECHOSLOVAKIA". It is in Excellent Condition. This is a prize example of the fabulous quality and intricacy of workmanship that characterized early Czech jewelry and accessories of this bygone era. Price includes domestic UPS Ground shipping.
