Rare Scultped Soapstone "Kwan Yin with Baby" Statue -- the goddes of fertility. Nice contrast between the black soapstone base and Kwan Yin (Guan Yin) figure. Note the detail carving on the left side of the figure (right side when looking at front).
In her left hand Kwan Yin is holding a baby which looks like a minature Budda. Actually, I have seen some babies that resembled a Budda, but of course I didn't mention that to the mother.
We cannot find any chips, cracks or damage to this figure.
Excellent patina with lighter color and burnish highlights on the figure.
This figurine measures a large 10 3/4 inches in height, 6 1/2 inches in width and 3 1/2 inches deep. It weighs a little over 6 pounds.
