Guilloche Dance Compact Ca. 1910s is in Very Good/Excellent Condition with the original blush pink powder and golden colored puff. An unusually beautiful gold tone compact shape features a central, engine-turned design within which is a lovely guilloche central focus of yellow flowers and green leaves on a pale lavender ground. The cord and tassel are original and there is a pale lavender guilloche slide adjustment tube on the handle that slides up and down the cord to snug the wristlet for dancing. The cord and tassel are original. The compact measures 2 x 1-7/8" and is approximately 3/8" thick. The adjustable cord handle is 9" long and the tassel is 1-1/2" long. The inner rim of the powder section is removable and marked, "R&G Co." for Ripley & Gowen, first established in Attelboro, MA in 1874. There is a patina of age on the reverse of the compact with the expected surface scratches, all superficial, and there is the slightest dimple which is almost unremarkable although we mention it for the sake of full disclosure. The front of the compact is pristine. There is a bit of aging on the inside of the compact around the inside lip edges top and bottom, much to be expected, but we are leaving this lovely compact in its original, as-found state. Imagine yourself, in a guided swirl around the dance floor on the arm of a handsome suitor to live music - so elegant - so civilized -- so nostalgic!
