Lovely way to welcome the Fall season with this 2-1/2" copper leaf by Nye - Stuart Nye Silver shop in Asheville, North Carolina. c. 1933 - present.
FAQ: Copper is believed to be the earliest metal known to mankind. It's earliest uses were as tools, weapons and charms or trinkets. In a search for alternatives to gold and silver, artisans found copper to be most maleable and accepting to enamel, engraving and relief work. The Arts and Crafts Guild made wonderful copper items from candlesticks and platters to jewelry and other decorative items. Then craftsmen such as Rebajes, Renoir and Matisse and Reja made copper prized and sought after in jewelry circles. Copper was also used by a number of southwestern US craftsmen such as Bell and Roslynn Hoffman. Turquoise became a favorite stone and gave that definite California, Southwestern look. Most true copper collectors like the natural patina that eventually softens most copper jewelry. If copper reacts to your skin and you still just have to wear it, clean it lightly and then apply a light lacquer to the part of the item that comes in contact with your skin. Some people believe that wearing copper jewelry will aid in the relief of arthritis. Find out more about COPPER .
