Clapsaddle Valentine postcard features a darling little boy in vintage attire holding a Valentine heart of roses with two other flowered hearts. The verse reads, "To My Valentine/Fragrant roses for Rememberance,/Pansies sweet for Living Thought-/So I send you from my garden/That which can nowhere be bought." The front of the postcard has a signature with a copyright symbol: "Int.ArtPub.Co." and there are postmark stamps over the signature of Ellen H. Clapsaddle. The reverse of the postcard is addressed in what appears to be pencil or light gray ink to "Miss Beulah Bowen, 120 Pine St.,Elkhard, Ind." There is also a hand written note: "To let you know we think of you. Dad, Ed, Mother" with two one cent postage stamps and a postal stamp dated Feb 12 1919, Toledo, Ohio. The reverse of the card is marked with a logo and the words, "International Art Publ Co New York-Phila." and there is a number 302. The card is in Very Good/Excellent Condition. with evidence of a slight bend on one upper corner. A nostalgic reminder of simpler times and a wonderful example of the Valentine postcard art of Ellen Clapsaddle, a highly collectible illustrator of the Victorian era.
